So last night, Mr. Perfect and I went to Ballet West's production of Swan Lake. It was lovely. The sets, costumes, and choreography were all amazing. Okay, Seigfreid did biff one lift, so poor Odette was left standing on the stage at the end of one of their big moments, but, hey, that could happen to anyone.
But really, the truly best part was when Seigfreid and Odette commit suicide to save all of the other girls-turned-into-swans. First, Mr. Perfect starting chuckling, then I did. It was really hard to not just laugh out loud, it was that corny. No big gestures of "No I think I will kill myself by throwing myself off this cliff." No, they both just came out on the set piece that was the cliff overlooking the lake, looked out at the swans battling the bad guy, turned around, and they were gone. Not at the same time either. And both did the exact same thing. I suppose the choreographer thought it would be more corny to have them make some gesture to show what they were going to do.
But seriously, it was a beautiful production. Even Mr. Perfect enjoyed it. I think he enjoyed it more because he got to laugh at part of it.

That's funny. I don't like the ballet. Love the costumes. Love the feel. Hate the corny stuff. I just can't forgive it most of the time. I have seen a couple of productions that I have liked. But none that I have loved. It's just too cheesie for me.
