I thought I should update you all on how the "Three Times in Three Months" challenge is going. We finished our first reading in 28 days. Whew! The second time through is going much slower. We realized that normal life was getting pushed aside a little too much with this challenge, but we still read some each night. We might not make the full challenge, but if we're reading some each day, that's better than nothing.
I've made it back to Alma 7. The focus this time is on Christ and his mission. I love the perspective it brings to what I'm reading. I also love the perspective just reading brings as well. I would love to get a copy of the Book of Mormon that's not divided into verses, but laid out in paragraphs. I'll have to see if either Amazon or the Distribution Center sells those.

I ran into your blog today when I googled about reading the BOM 3 times in 3 months. I want to do this!! i am very daunted by the enormity of this task...I have 4 year old twins for heaven sakes! ;) Anyway, from a person who has done the challenge, I have a question. Do you think the three topics (how the Lord deals w/problems/references to the Savior/when the Lord is speaking directly to me) can be combined into one reading?? I am wondering if this will greatly lessen the experience. I will say, (I regret to say..)I have never read the BOM cover to cover. I ALWAYS get lost and stumble b/c of those pesky Isaih verses...then I start to read somewhere else...I do believe i have read the book in it;s entirety...just not in order...and not in a dicsiplined way. :)any advise or insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for your blog posts about this subject!!

Hello, Carrie. Thanks for reading. The first time I read the BoM cover-to-cover, I had to just plow my way through the Isaiah chapters. One thing that is really nice about the challenge is that it helps you focus your reading more so that, even in Isaiah, you'll be looking for a specific reference. It helped me a lot when reading them. Also, reading 18 pages a day means that you're only in those chapters for two days.
As far as doing all three topics at once, I have also read the BoM that way. When I was on my mission, I would choose three words each time through that I would highlight with a different color, so I think that's a great way to do it. With these three topics, I have found so much overlap that my copy is becoming very colorful.
And remember, even if you don't "complete" the challenge, the important thing is to be immersing yourself in these amazing words every day. I wish I could say that I've become perfect at daily scripture reading; I haven't, but I have become much more consistent.
Good luck!
