It's more about the writing than the politics...

Disclaimer! This post in no way endorses or criticizes any political candidate or party. I'm just saying.

Last night, Mr. Perfect and I had great fun reading some of the Drudge Report articles together. Although I am very politically minded and active, I try to keep that off of this blog. This is more about family and every-day life than what's happening with the country in general.

That said, I couldn't resist sharing this particular article with you all...because the writing is so good. It's by Kathleen Parker (no relation), who writes for the Washington Post. It's an opinion piece about the Romney vs. Gingrich primary race. I don't think I've ever laughed out loud so much while reading the newspaper (including the comics). Hope you enjoy it, too.

Where where you?

Where were you on September 11, 2001 when you found out about the attacks? I was on the freeway heading to work and listening to the radio. People were pulling over to the shoulder so they could listen to the live report.

How has your life changed personally because of this event? Are you closer to your family? Are you closer to God? Do you feel that we, as a country, have lost some of the good that came out of this awful tragedy? I do. I think that we have become more hardened towards righteuousness. We have become more worldly and less inclined to rely on Heavenly Father. I don't believe these changes are for the better. In so many ways, I wish we could go back to the innocence of how life was before 9/11, but I know we can't. In more ways, I wish we could go back to the raw, real emotions of the few short months and years just after the attacks. We were kinder to our neighbors, less judgmental of each other, and more loving to our families and friends.

We can't change what happened that day. But we must remember what we learned from it, discard the bad and keep the good. Unfortunately, I think we are losing some of the good.

Hope you all had a great Independence Day

Or, if you're are reading this from some other country than the U.S.A., I hope that your July 4th was nice.

I love celebrating America's independence. I love learning and studying the history of how this country came to be. (American government was my favorite general ed at the University of Utah.) I love the men and women who sacrificed so much so that we could live in unprecedented freedom.

When Benjamin Franklin was asked what the Constitutional Congress had given the people, he responded with "A republic, if you can keep it." I sure hope we can.
