Never forget

A friend of our works in one of the tall buildings that surrounds Ground Zero of the World Trade Center. Over the last year since they moved to the New York area, he has been watching construction for the memorials. I think the sunken fountains are amazing and beautiful, and a fitting tribute to the people who lost their lives on that tragic morning twelve years ago. I find it astonishing to think that twelve years have past, but I also find it astonishing to think it has only been twelve years.

Matt watched them hoist the antennae up to the top and we have watched as they finished the exterior of One World Trade. It is a gorgeous building that you brings your eye right to the area. The memorial park will still have some years before it is finished, but the fountains are beautiful.
My favorite part, is the church next door. It's centuries old and when all of the damage was done, it didn't lose even one brick. There are shrines to the lives lost and we always go and light a candle in remembrance. It is a peaceful place where I feel the spirit- in that crazy loud city.
I was thinking about how Roe was just a newborn when the towers fell, living in Arizona. never in a million years would I have guessed that life would bring us to NYC. There are parades and Matt can hear bagpipes when he is down on the lower levels of his building, people are celebrating the lives and the grace we receive in a loving God who mends all and restores all that becomes lost.
Come to NYC, Russ and Nancy!

We need to come and see you (more than the city -- though that would be fun, too). Maybe early next year. None-summer travel is great when you don't have to worry about kids missing school. :) Your turn for that will come all too soon, believe me.
